Description

Homemade jerky made with lamb and pumpkin for a healthy treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground lamb
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 170°F (77°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine the ground lamb, pumpkin puree, water, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.
  3. Spread the mixture evenly onto the prepared baking sheet in a thin layer, about 1/8 inch thick. You can use a rolling pin or your hands to achieve an even thickness.
  4. Score the jerky with a knife or pizza cutter to make it easier to break apart after baking.
  5. Bake for 4 to 6 hours, or until the jerky is dry and firm. The exact time will depend on the thickness of your jerky and your oven.
  6. Let the jerky cool completely on the baking sheet before breaking it into pieces along the scored lines.
  7. Store the jerky in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or in the refrigerator for longer storage.

Notes

  • Ensure your pumpkin puree is plain and not pie filling.
  • For a chewier jerky, bake for a shorter time. For a crispier jerky, bake for longer.
  • You can adjust the seasonings to your preference.
