A simple recipe for making homemade dry dog food kibble featuring chicken and parsley for breath freshening.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup cooked, shredded chicken breast
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup oat flour
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked chicken, chopped parsley, whole wheat flour, and oat flour. Mix well.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together the water, egg, and melted coconut oil.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until a stiff dough forms.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to about 1/8 inch thickness.
- Use a small cookie cutter or knife to cut the dough into small, kibble-sized pieces.
- Place the pieces on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the kibble is hard and dry.
- Turn off the oven and leave the kibble inside with the door slightly ajar for another 30 minutes to fully dry out.
- Cool completely before storing.
Notes
- Store the finished kibble in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
- You can substitute chicken with ground turkey or lean beef.
- Adjust water slightly if the dough is too dry or too wet to handle.
