Description
Simple recipe for making nutritious, protein-rich dry dog food kibbles at home using chicken and chickpeas.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1 cup cooked chickpeas, mashed
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, mashed chickpeas, rolled oats, water, coconut oil, and dried parsley. Mix until fully incorporated.
- Spread the mixture thinly and evenly onto the prepared baking sheet. Aim for about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the mixture is firm and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool completely on the sheet.
- Once cool, break or cut the sheet into small, bite-sized kibble shapes.
- For a crunchier texture, return the pieces to a very low oven (200°F or 95°C) for an additional 30 minutes, turning halfway through.
- Store the finished kibbles in an airtight container.
Notes
- Adjust water content if the mix seems too dry or too wet before baking.
- You can substitute ground turkey for chicken if desired.
- These homemade kibbles should be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week or frozen for longer storage.
