Description

Simple recipe for making dry dog food kibble at home using beef and rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup flaxseed meal
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, egg, water, flaxseed meal, and coconut oil. Mix until thoroughly combined.
  3. Spread the mixture thinly and evenly onto the prepared baking sheets. Aim for a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
  4. Bake for 45 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven and carefully break the mixture into small, bite-sized pieces while still warm.
  6. Return the pieces to the oven and bake for another 30 to 45 minutes, or until the kibble is completely dry and crunchy. Check frequently to prevent burning.
  7. Turn off the oven and let the kibble cool completely inside the oven with the door slightly ajar for at least 1 hour to fully dry out.
  8. Store the cooled kibble in an airtight container.

Notes

  • You can substitute brown rice for white rice if desired.
  • Adjust the water amount slightly if the mixture seems too dry or too wet before baking.
  • Ensure the kibble is fully dry before storing to prevent mold growth.
