Description
Simple recipe for making dry dog food kibble at home using beef and rice.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 cups cooked white rice
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup flaxseed meal
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, egg, water, flaxseed meal, and coconut oil. Mix until thoroughly combined.
- Spread the mixture thinly and evenly onto the prepared baking sheets. Aim for a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
- Bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and carefully break the mixture into small, bite-sized pieces while still warm.
- Return the pieces to the oven and bake for another 30 to 45 minutes, or until the kibble is completely dry and crunchy. Check frequently to prevent burning.
- Turn off the oven and let the kibble cool completely inside the oven with the door slightly ajar for at least 1 hour to fully dry out.
- Store the cooled kibble in an airtight container.
Notes
- You can substitute brown rice for white rice if desired.
- Adjust the water amount slightly if the mixture seems too dry or too wet before baking.
- Ensure the kibble is fully dry before storing to prevent mold growth.
