Description

A simple recipe for homemade chicken and cheese jerky.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Cut chicken breast into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  3. Add chicken strips to the marinade and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
  4. Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Arrange the marinated chicken strips on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
  6. Bake for 2-3 hours, or until the chicken is dry and firm to the touch. The exact time will depend on the thickness of your strips and your oven.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool completely on the baking sheet.
  8. Once cooled, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the jerky strips.
  9. Return the jerky to the oven for another 5-10 minutes, just until the cheese is melted and slightly bubbly.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool completely. The cheese will harden as it cools.
  11. Store the chicken cheese jerky in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for longer storage.

Notes

  • For a spicier jerky, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade.
  • Ensure chicken is fully dried before adding cheese to prevent sogginess.
  • You can also use a dehydrator for this recipe, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
