Description
A simple recipe for homemade chicken and cheese jerky.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Cut chicken breast into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
- Add chicken strips to the marinade and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Arrange the marinated chicken strips on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
- Bake for 2-3 hours, or until the chicken is dry and firm to the touch. The exact time will depend on the thickness of your strips and your oven.
- Remove from oven and let cool completely on the baking sheet.
- Once cooled, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the jerky strips.
- Return the jerky to the oven for another 5-10 minutes, just until the cheese is melted and slightly bubbly.
- Remove from oven and let cool completely. The cheese will harden as it cools.
- Store the chicken cheese jerky in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for longer storage.
Notes
- For a spicier jerky, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade.
- Ensure chicken is fully dried before adding cheese to prevent sogginess.
- You can also use a dehydrator for this recipe, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
