Description
Homemade chicken and apple jerky for your dog, promoting fresh breath.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 170°F (77°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Trim any visible fat from the chicken breast. Slice the chicken breast thinly, about 1/8 inch thick, against the grain.
- In a bowl, combine the chicken slices, unsweetened applesauce, and chopped parsley. Mix well to coat the chicken evenly.
- Arrange the coated chicken slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Ensure the slices do not overlap.
- Bake for 4 to 6 hours, or until the jerky is dry and firm to the touch. The exact time will depend on the thickness of your slices and your oven.
- Turn off the oven and let the jerky cool completely inside the oven with the door slightly ajar.
- Once cooled, store the jerky in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Notes
- For thinner jerky, slice the chicken breast while it is partially frozen.
- You can adjust the amount of parsley based on your dog’s preference.
- Ensure the jerky is completely dry before storing to prevent mold.
